J.K. Rowling’s Gift To Booksellers
One more holiday season to sell analog copies of Harry Potter before she begins the exclusive distribution of ebook versions via her Pottermore website.
Turns out that they will not begin selling ebooks until “the first half of 2012″.
Which begs the question: if the Kindle Fire is as closed of a system as it appears to be, will Harry Potter ebooks be available for the device. It stands to reason that Pottermore could easily create an app for the Fire, but will Amazon demand a cut and how big would it be? If you don’t buy your Harry Potter ebooks from Amazon, will they let you store it in their cloud? It’s not like you can tether the device to your PC and shift files between them (like you can do with your Kindle now).
